God’s Little Pep Talk: Rejoice and Be Glad

Today we hear Jesus give us a pep talk, and we see that he raises the bar on what is “OK” and calls us to shoot for perfection. He knows its going to be hard and we will catch all kind of flack for it. This is why he gives us this pep talk. Check out the full bible text

Matthew 5

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Proverbs 5 and Keeping it in Your Pants

For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil;
4 but in the end she is bitter as gall,
sharp as a double-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
her steps lead straight to the grave.
6 She gives no thought to the way of life;
her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it.

God knows temptation and I love the way he says “She does no know it.” I take that to mean she is “uneducated.”

God's Way and the World's Way Polar Opposite

When you read these scripture it just points out how different Go'd way of life is instead of the way of the world. If you watch reality television it's all about getting “what's yours,” and “Bashing people in the face.” It's all about getting laid, and seeing how man notches on your belt you can get. God is trying to tell us that our true rewards are for those who wait. That it won't be easy, but he promises that it worth it.
